Founder’s Week

This is a really big week at Buckner for several reasons.

First, the Buckner International Board of Trustees meets for its April meeting this week. We are exploring new opportunities for discussion on key topics for our future. We are all very excited about the potential of this meeting.

That would be enough news to make this a big week. We are also celebrating Founder’s Day on Friday. On Founder’s Day, we remember our founder, Dr. Robert Cooke Buckner and we celebrate outstanding staff with special recognition and Founder’s Day Awards. Executive Directors and program leaders are coming in from Kenya, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, and Mexico in addition to Executive Directors and staff from Amarillo, Lubbock, Midland, San Angelo, Dallas, Longview, Lufkin, Conroe, Houston, Beaumont, Austin, and Mission, Texas. It feels like a family reunion.

I am speaking at the Buckner Children and Family Services (BCFS) Leadership Summit this week and look forward to fellowship with this group leaders led by Henry Jackson, senior vice president for Buckner Children and Family Services. Last week I was in Austin speaking to the Executive Leadership of Buckner Retirement Services (BRS) led by Charlie Wilson, senior vice president for BRS. Bill Frisby, Founder of Strengthening Leaders, was our guest speaker and facilitator. I came away from that gathering so impressed with our leaders and encouraged about our future.

Finally, in between board meetings and the BCFS Leadership Summit, the Christian Leadership Alliance (CLA) is hosting its 2018 Outcomes Conference on April 17-19, 2018 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Dallas. It is not too late to register and take advantage of the many workshops, seminars, and keynote speakers. This conference is the largest national leadership gathering of faith-based, non-profit organizations and ministries. Pastors, staff ministers, missional leaders, CEO’s and Executive Directors of nonprofit organizations, as well as board members will find great value in this conference.

On the topic of outstanding conferences…check out the CAFO Summit…

Christian Alliance for Orphans – CAFO Summit 2018 in Dallas
CAFO is a national movement in the local church to step up and live out the teaching of James 1:27 which says: “Pure religion that the father accepts is to visit orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself undefiled from the world.” The CAFO Summit inspires and equips the Church to care for orphans and vulnerable children with wisdom-guided love. Nearly 3,000 foster and adoptive parents, orphan advocates, pastors, and professionals from 30 countries gathered last year for this conference. The focus of the summit is to focus on effective foster care, adoption, family preservation and global orphan ministry. Come and see James 1:27 in action. You will be impressed, inspired, and informed. Take time to register today at The CAFO Summit

meets this year at Stonebriar Community Church in Plano on May 9-11. One more thing, please take time to pray for the CAFO Summit and the Kingdom impact this group can have here and around the world.

  1. Good afternoon. I am interested in becoming involved with Buckner International. I live in Monterrey, Mexico, and hold a degree in Economics. I have collaborated years ago with World Vision (Vision Mundial de Mexico). I also had the privilege of being part of the Oxford Conference on Christian Faith and Economics as part of the Mexico group within the Latin American delegation. I would like to approach Dr. Albert Reyes. Is it possible for you to provide me with his email? Thank you.
